The castle was probably constructed as a royal base in the first half of the 13th century. It was first mentioned in 1261 when it was in possession of Smil of Ronow, who called himself Smil of Lichtenburg and thereby created the von Lichtenburg family.

In the past, the well-known Czech monarch Charles IV also stayed here.

Now it is a ruin of a castle, but it still has its charm. As it has a beautiful view of the surroundings and the building is still used for various cultural events and/or wedding ceremonies.
